Tips & Hints

BE ACTIVE IN YOUR COMMUNITY

CAR POOL / USE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
We can car pool in many different aspects of our lives; school, work, events, shopping... The benefits of car pooling include; reduced use of our nonrenewable resources, reduced expenses, more time (parents helping each other), improved travel time - less traffic and transit lanes, reduced emissions, less parking spaces needed and reduced stress. We have these same benefits with public transportation.

DONATE DISCARDS TO CHARITY
Not only does donating our discards to our local charities help with our land fills, but they become treasures to someone else. We share with others what we no longer need.
There is a wide selection of organizations that accept donations from clothes, to knick-knacks to cars.

Another source of free sharing of your items, or to find what you've been looking for is FreeCycle at
http://freecycle.org/.

EDUCATE OUR YOUTH
Teach children to respect nature. Take them out on hikes, camping or biking through natural settings. Explain our connection to all. Show them how to experience the magic of quietness - the bounty of sounds around us. Teach them to pick up litter - if each of us picked up one piece of litter a day in our country, that would be 300,000,000 pieces per day! This is a great website for information and resources: www.hookedonnature.org

By using local vendors we cut down on transportation costs, fuel consumption and pollution. There is less truck traffic adding to congestion on our city streets and highways. We are also contributing to the local economy.
